Geoff’s Safari Trail was designed to enhance the Giraffe Garden, an outdoor
play space beside The Tree House paediatric wards. The brief emerged from a
shared goal among play specialists and ward staff: to create a positive,
therapeutic outdoor experience for children recovering from surgery or for
visiting relatives. The challenge was to help children feel relaxed and curious
again — transforming the hospital garden from a place of waiting into a place of
wonder.
The project aligned closely with my personal design philosophy that nature
supports healing. Using augmented reality (AR), I aimed to create a light-touch
experience that encouraged movement, distraction, and joy — supporting
emotional recovery and offering families a gentle, shared activity during
hospital stays.
